One of the best things you can do to support your health is to eat
a diet rich in fresh, locally-grown, seasonal fruits and vegetables. When you do, you are packing the maximum nutrition into every delicious bite.
Buying and eating locally-grown fruits and vegetables means that you are eating only those products that are in season in your local area. Local produce is higher in nutrition because you are eating it closer to its source. When you purchase products not grown locally – even if the produce is in season – the product may have lost some of its nutritional value because of the time it took to travel from the farm to your table. Locally-grown, seasonal produce also tends to taste better, with richer, more complex flavors that those that have traveled further.
Fresh fruits and vegetables contain complex carbohydrates for sustained energy as well as vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants that are important for health. While we all have our favorites, when you eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, enjoying their many different colors and flavors, you are introducing a wide variety of nutrients into your body.
