Food Access in Union City

California Food Education is partnering with Fresh Approach and the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association (PCFMA), the operator of the Union City Farmers’ Market, to help make healthy food more accessible for Union City families.

Beginning Saturday, June 6, shoppers at the Union City Farmers’ Market can use the debit card issued to them by the state of California’s Economic Development Department (EDD) to purchase Market Money to spend with the farmers in the market. Every $2 in Market Money that a customer purchases with an EDD card will be matched, up to $10 per customer per week. This allows families relying on unemployment to stretch their food dollars while purchasing health, farm-fresh produce.

This benefit is made available through the generous support of the office of Alameda County District 2 Supervisor, Richard Valle, through the District 2 Emergency Support Grant. The program will continue as long as funds are available.

This benefit is in addition to the Market Match program which provides a match of up to $10 per week for shoppers using their CalFresh-EBT cards at the Union City Farmers’ Market.
